Description
Moist and flavorful banana bread studded with chocolate chips. This beloved classic is perfect for breakfast, snacking, or dessert, and is an excellent way to use up overripe bananas.
Ingredients
- 3 large ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 1/2 cups)
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
2. In a large mixing bowl, mash the bananas with a fork until smooth with small chunks remaining.
3. Stir the melted butter into the mashed bananas.
4. Add the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract, mixing well to combine.
5. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and stir.
6. Add the flour and gently fold it in until just combined. Do not overmix.
7. Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts (if using), reserving a few chocolate chips for topping.
8. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
9. Sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips on top.
10. Bake for 60-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
11. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
The riper the bananas, the better! Look for bananas with lots of brown spots for maximum sweetness and flavor. This bread freezes beautifully for up to 3 months when wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil. For a healthier version, substitute half the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
